Teamwork values

In the first two weeks, I have learned a lot about project production, however, the most important lesson for me are the elements of teamwork. Being introduced to new individuals with different personalities and specifications has helped me build my interpersonal skills. I learned to respect others’ opinions and work together to harmonize our differences and views to best suit the needs of the whole group.

In the beginning, I wanted to be more deeply involved in the creative conceptualization process because I am very interested in building concepts as it is one of my future career aspirations. However, we went on to have several discussions together and decided that with each team member’s specialized field, it would be best if the workload was divided according to our expertise. And with my skills in the research and writing field, it would belong in my responsibility, along with assisting in directing on-set due to prior experience and being the final checker to go over the final products because of my detail-oriented nature. Overall, I believe that this division of tasks based on a deep analysis of individual strengths and weaknesses will be effective and productive towards creating an outstanding group production. This is also another skill that I will take to utilize in team projects in the future.

Production house process

Nextly, I really appreciate the knowledge of the role of a production house in producing a short-film. Although we didn’t have to go through the process of creating an original script, we must still analyze it in the role of viewers to see whether there is any room for improvement or any potential complications in practical application. We have discussed with the client and able to pitch in an extra scene to give the film a more authentic feeling without exceeding the time limit or altering too much from the main story. We also planned for the artistic direction of the production, the overall theme that we want to present that fits with the story being told. I worked together with others to create the shooting script, in which we decide on the technical elements in the shooting process. This part took a lot of time because we had to envision how we wanted the scenes to look like and planned out little details of each shot.

Script and shotlist

We also discussed possible locations that are best suited for the scenes as well as reasonable towards our budget, which was also being meticulously planned to minimize all spendings.

Planned location 1

Planned location 2

Within this week, we are finalizing our creative mood-board and character casting to share with the Communications team.

Moodboard ideas and casting

It was very interesting to know that in the planning process for a production house, a lot of elements are usually being decided simultaneously rather than step-by-step and activities are run alongside each other by different team members. Moreover, a good social network is also useful, since location 1 is provided by me and location 2 is made available from another teammate's connection.

Despite the lack of order, I think it is a good opportunity to enhance my ability to keep track of various aspects and help me practice in a working environment. This assessment is helpful in teaching me practical skills as well as extending my soft skills in working with other individuals in a team environment.
